Abstract
The art of puppetry has been in existence for several centuries. In their long history puppets have been used in various activities such as early Christian Church services, as interpreters of morals and customs in Indonesia, and in Europe to make political statements. They started to appear in children's theater in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Educators began using puppetry for educational purposes in the 1920's. The uses of puppetry in education has expanded over the years to include being used to develop communication and language skills, for entertainment, as an instructional tool, and as a therapeutic tool.
