Abstract
In relation to the expansion and industrialization of America's west, the essay discusses how greed drove many settlers to treat Mexicans, Asians, and Native Americans poorly. In a broader sense, the theme of greed driving mistreatment of others, is briefly applied to all nations and cultures of any time period. Written for the essay portion of the Chapter 15 Test in U.S. History, the piece encompasses all of history, as there are examples of greed and mistreatment of minorities in every generation. Although originally only intended for the instructor's eyes, the essay easily speaks volumes to anyone who has an active conscience and is willing to analyze himself as well as the rest of the world and the motives behind evil actions.
