Abstract
Adoption of mobile health technology is rapidly accelerating. Health care professionals and the health care industry are developing, implementing and using mobile and other personal health technologies for timely data sharing and improved engagement and communication, all aimed at improving patient satisfaction, individual health, population health management, and healthcare system efficiency. The counterbalances to this phenomenon include patient safety and patient privacy concerns – primarily evidenced by ongoing regulatory oversight by a number of federal agencies, and states’ reluctance to relax medical licensure requirements implicated through the interstate use of mobile technologies. This session will explore the forces driving mobile health, advancements in mobile health technology, and the legal and regulatory issues to be considered when advancing the use of mobile technology in patient care.
