Abstract
My composition tells the story of a summer day through the use of tonal music. Much like the program music of Romanticism, this composition follows a sequence of events that can occur on a summer day. While there is no text to follow with the music, the four sections are titled, allowing the listeners to paint their own pictures in their imaginations. This summer day begins with sunrise, moves through the day with the sun beating down, is startled by a storm, and finishes with the twilight.
This story of a summer day is written for performance by a string orchestra, brass quintet, piano, and percussion. The composition is tonal throughout with some shifting tonalities and moments of chromatic movement in the middle of the composition.
