Educational Experiences of Black Female Faculty
Abstract
Recent trends in educational research have encouraged the close analysis of diversity in the classroom. Much attention is being gained by the often overlooked groups, specifically females and people of color. In this paper I study the effects of racism and sexism on the education of African-American women. By using the concepts incorporated in the Feminist Interview, I will be examining the experiences of these African-American women educators and looking at how their educational experiences have influenced their teaching methods. I will also look at whether or not there have been significant influences in their development of a feminist pedagogy as a result of these same educational experiences. I will also be discussing the suppression of black feminist thought in the area of education and sociology.
