Abstract
Reported here is a proposed procedure for a secondary administrator to gain entry level knowledge and skills in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the day by day operations performed by the superintendent of a school system.
The experience focused on whether a high school principal could be instrumental in establishing a school district curriculum council, become involved with the planning of the budget, follow the practices used in a building project and the daily operation of a school district.
The experience brought to light the scope of the superintendency and the responsibilities that come with the position. Through active participation in the duties of the superintendent, entry level knowledge and skills were gained that will prepare a high school principal to assume the responsibilities of a superintendent.
