Abstract
This thesis examines Barcelona's patronage of the Dominican convent of Santa Catalina during the thirteenth century. Using primary sources collected in the Archives of the Cathedral of Barcelona, the Archives of the Crown of Aragon, and the University of Barcelona Manuscripts and Reserve Room, it argues that the convent of Santa Catalina received assistance from a broad spectrum of the city's social and economic classes during the thirteenth century. However, the majority of its benefactors belonged to the city's developing patriciate class, who used their donations to Santa Catalina as a means of demonstrating and distinguishing their social status.
