Abstract
The purpose of this thesis was to research the history, influences, and main characteristics of the musical styles Marimba from Ecuador and Samba from Brazil. After researching the two kinds of music, jazz works were composed and inspired by these styles. This research discusses some of the similarities between the three styles as they have the same African roots, but also recognizes the differences that make them unique. The final compositions are the result of this rich range of melodic, rhythmic and harmonic characteristics and are analyzed within these same parameters.
