Abstract
Every state in the United States has statutory provisions requiring alcohol education in the public schools . The earliest of these laws dates back to 1858.Taking these facts into account one might assume that by this time, alcohol education programs would be well established and clearly defined, but most authorities in the field would say that this assumption is incorrect. The reasons for the failure of alcohol education programs to become well established are many and complicated, and are not the function of this paper to discuss except for one aspect, which is one of the contributing factors to this situation. That aspect is the existence or non-existence of materials on alcohol education in student textbooks. The purpose of this study therefore is to evaluate the coverage of material on alcohol education in student textbooks.
