Abstract

This blog post by Marjo Buitelaar, a professor of contemporary Islam, discusses the likelihood of the 2020 Hajj being cancelled. Additionally, Buitelaar discusses past cancellations of the Hajj, in addition to pilgrimages which took place despite past pandemics and their affect on the spread of disease. Buitelaar also discusses the doctrine regarding the correlation between the Day of Judgement and cancelling the Hajj.
