Abstract
This teaching resource by Dr. Levi McLaughlin of North Carolina State University, focuses on COVID-19 in Japan and the Buddhist response to the pandemic. The teaching resource discusses issues of politics, virtual worship, chanting, the practice of rituals, temple responses, past epidemics, and social welfare. The teaching resource features the Nichiren Buddhism-based lay association, the Soka Gakka, the Buddha Vairocana at the temple Tōdaiji, and the Amabie from Japan’s bestiary.
