Abstract
This project investigates the approaches that three different moderately conservative evangelical Protestant denominations take toward women, especially the ordination of women and related issues. The three denominations are the Church of the Nazarene, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of American (ELCA) and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). I begin with a historical analysis of the development of these denominations while focusing on the role women have played. Then I address modern issues in each denomination. Finally I discuss the ramifications this research has on commonly accepted perceptions of evangelicalism.
