Chapter I
Definition of the Problem
Problem:
For many years there has been need for a better understanding of the dramatic arts activity in our Michigan schools. Teachers are selected, and sometimes paid, to direct school plays. In a few instances, particularly in the larger schools, these teachers attempt to develop a well-rounded dramatics program.
But what, of a concrete nature, is known about dramatic arts activity in our schools? What is being done? Where does a teacher assigned to direct a school play, or to develop a dramatics program within a single school system, stand in relation to teachers in similar situations in other schools in Michigan?
