Abstract
Powerful and hegemonic entities in society disseminate post-truth messages in order to gain wealth, maintain power, and increase control. Unsuspecting individuals encounter these inimical messages and often find themselves experiencing difficulty discerning fact from fiction because they are largely unprepared to deal with this type of deceitful persuasion. Specifically, unethically utilizing principles of communication pedagogy through what I deem the post-truth process of weaponizing doubt, hegemonic actors deter people from responding and taking action. Because of this, a critical communication pedagogy is needed, utilizing dialogue to prebunk and debunk the process to help people learn to develop educated doubt that allows them to develop reasoned responses to disinformation that is communicated to them.
