Abstract

This forum introduction invites communication pedagogues to move beyond binary debates about whether to use or resist artificial intelligence. It frames AI as a set of enduring pedagogical, ethical, institutional, environmental, and communicative tensions that require critical inquiry rather than premature certainty. The forum’s contributors examine questions of agency, policy, relational communication, infrastructure, learning processes, and risk management, positioning communication pedagogy as essential to helping students and educators engage AI with rigor, curiosity, and human-centered intentionality.
